When family comes to visit, most people get excited and can’t wait to catch up. Along with the fun times though, family can bring with them drama, arguments and a bit of frustration. You don’t get to choose your family so sometimes you just have to roll with the punches, roll your eyes, and just deal. I do have to say that some people don’t have family and would gladly take the bad with the good. We are the lucky ones, at least most of the time. J
So I bring you this article since the holidays are upon us. Whether you celebrate Easter, Passover, or any other special holiday that occurs in the month of April, it’s a moment for families to get together, re-live old times and create new special memories. A family can also drive you to pull your hair out and cause you to head right back to the airport to put your relatives on the next flight to wherever! It’s definitely a challenge dealing with the stress of family but with a bit of laughter and a grain of salt, you can get through it. It’s also a good idea to book a room at the local mental hospital for yourself when everyone leaves…you’ll need it!
Does the sign you hold up at the airport say your family’s last name, or does it read in large black marker, the Bickersons? Do you look around and wonder where the reality television cameras are, since most people wouldn’t believe the stories you could tell about your family? Do you need to warn the local restaurants that your family is coming, to prepare them that their drinks, appetizers, main courses and desserts will surely be returned? In the end, your drama might cause a lot of shaking heads but hopefully it will cause a lot of laughter as well. The important thing is to love each other and enjoy each other, differences and all. Life is too short to dwell on the small stuff!
Happy holidays to everyone celebrating something special. Enjoy great food, great friends and of course, great family!
