My New Year’s Mantra: What’s Yours?

The end of the year is near…how did that happen?  Is it me or are we always saying that? It’s summer break and camp time…when did that happen? It’s the holidays…when did that happen? It’s New Years…how is that possible?  Well it is happening people so get on board.

Is your New Year’s Resolution is to lose weight and get in shape, like everyone else in the world?  How many years in a row now have you said that?  For some, it’s an easy task but for many, a difficult challenge.

For those who know me, you know I love to work out.  Why?  Well for many reasons.  Yes it keeps me in shape but it’s more of a mental exercise for me.  When you are a mom and always doing everything for someone else, it’s nice to do something for yourself.

When I finish my workout, I feel accomplished and confident, like I can conquer whatever the day is going to bring, and as we all know with parenting…it can get pretty crazy!  In fact, when I don’t work out, I feel horrible.

Finding the time is definitely a challenge but my theory is if you are dedicated and want it to happen, you will find a way.  Are you busy with the kids?  Perhaps your gym has a nursery or you can work out at home during nap time.  Swamped at work and feel like collapsing at the end of the day?  Maybe you can get up earlier to do a morning workout?  There is always a way.  I remember a while back I missed my favorite workout because my son was home sick for a few days and I ended up doing squats in the doctor’s office while we were waiting.  Weird, perhaps, but I used my time wisely and got it done.

My newest obsession is Lagree Fitness, which according to the site, is the only workout that EFFECTIVELY combines Strength, Endurance, Cardio, Balance, Core and Flexibility training not only in one session but in each and every move.  I would have to strongly agree!!!  There are locations all around the U.S. that offer classes based on Lagree Fitness, including Mantra, where I attend, located in both South Tampa, Sarasota and coming soon…Salt Lake City.

I discovered Mantra because of a blogger event and after the first class, I was seriously hooked.  Recently at Mantra’s grand opening event, I got to meet Sebastien Lagree, the creator of the Lagree Fitness workout.  He even taught the class and while I couldn’t walk for a few days after, it was awesome.  That is the point though, right?  To feel your body changing?

I love that I have partnered with Mantra to help spread the word about their workout, because I truly believe it has completely changed my body.  After three kids, I was looking to get involved with a workout that sucked it all back in and tone up a bit.  At nearly 40, I now see muscles in the mirror that have clearly been hiding for all those years.

I have always worked out and loved fitness but after a while, whatever I was into got boring.  I would hit a plateau where I was not challenging myself or seeing any new changes.

I think this is why Mantra is so attractive to me.  It’s something totally different from anything I had done in the past.  I am so passionate about this workout because it works!  In the past, I have never left the gym feeling, wow, I worked every part of my body and in an efficient manner.  I would do one day on legs, one day on arms, etc.  With Mantra, I get my whole body involved in only 50 minutes.

I was actually afraid at first that if I devoted part of my workouts to Mantra, it would get old really quick, but quite the opposite holds true.  There are so many different exercises you can perform on the Megaformer (the equipment we use in class)  that each class is always different.

The instructors are really good about mixing things up, which is why it never gets easier or mundane.  Yes, you feel more confident and you get stronger with each class, but it never becomes a workout that is easy.

To help you understand more about what working on a Megaformer is like, think about Pilates, but on steroids, as people like to describe the 50 minute workout.  With each class, you work over 600 muscles in each and every movement with a combination of core, cardio, balance, flexibility, and strength training.  When they say the workout will leave your muscles quivering, that shake is for sure real.  Even though it’s tough, I know it’s working so I crave more.

I’m not going to sugar coat it, Mantra (the Lagree Fitness workout) is hard…really hard, BUT, everyone around you, including the instructors and fellow clients are really supportive.  You can expect to burn between 500-700 calories (WOW) in each class, which is pretty impressive.
I attend Mantra twice a week religiously and fill in the other days with a run or a bike ride.  I am a big supporter of the program and urge everyone to at least try it once.  It will literally change your body!
Good luck with your New Year’s Resolutions!  YOU CAN DO IT!!!
